A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Sylvanus Ayinka, has said that the emergence of Oseloka Obaze, a former Secretary to the State Government as the governorship candidate of the party is an indication that the PDP will regain control of the state.
He said Obaze was part of the administration of former governor Peter Obi’s which he said has been adjudged to be the best the state had witnessed. He believes none of Obaze’s opponents can boast of his level of experience in business and politics.
“For more than 10 years, Obaze was the only black man at the political affairs department in the United Nations. He was in the middle of the Yugoslavia and Crotia conflict till it ended. It is someone with his level of experience that Anambra state needs at this point. The voters in the state know what is good and they are going to vote massively for Obaze and the PDP because we have the answer to the nation’s economic problem”, he said
But the deputy national chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Uchenna Okogbuo, said neither Obaze nor the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Tony Nwoye, can match Obiano.
He said: “Nwoye has the constitutional right to aspire to govern Anambra State but his problems are that the wrong timing and the fact that he is in a political party that is non-existent in the South East. Anambra State is the traditional headquarters of APGA and the two governors that have emerged from the party have been exceptionally good. Meanwhile, the President of Amalgamated Markets Traders Association (AMATA) Anambra State chapter, Okwudili Ezenwankwo, has said that all the markets leaders have begun mobilising for Obiano’s re-election.
While speaking with our correspondent, he said if the election won’t be rigged, Obiano has the chances of cruising to victory at the polls. According to him, “Nobody can rig election in Anambra state and it can’t even be tried because there would be no avenue for rigging and besides, anybody who wants to govern the state should test his or her popularity through the ballot boxes and not by rigging.
“I have not yet seen any strong opposition from other political parties so far, because Obiano had done well in all its ramifications to the extent that he had provided an enabling environment for business to thrive, which has endeared him to the traders and we have concluded arrangements to vote for him massively.”
