Destination Philadelphia for Chris Wyles and Saracens

As an American international who has already played for Saracens on the other side of the Atlantic, Chris Wyles is more excited than anyone about the upcoming clash with Newcastle Falcons in Philadelphia.

The second Aviva Premiership Rugby fixture to be played in America in two years, the Falcons will take on

Saracens at the Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia on September 16.

The Round 3 clash brings Wyles back to his home – indeed the versatile winger was raised in nearby Allentown and still has friends and family in the area.

“I actually grew up about one-and-a-half hours away in a place called Allentown, Pennsylvania and we still have family and friends who live nearby,” said the 33-year-old

“One of the most memorable times visiting was with the USA Eagles national team; we played against Harlequins in a World Cup warm-up game in the same stadium as the one we are going to play in against Newcastle. That was back in 2015.

“I actually didn’t play in the game and I will never forget it because the non-playing squad had to get up the next day and run up and down the steps from the Rocky film!

“It’s a great city and there is so much to see and do so I can’t wait for us all to get out there.”

Wyles started on the wing the last time Aviva Premiership Rugby brought a game across the pond two years ago.

He was part of the Saracens side that downed London Irish in New York’s Red Bull Arena.

And as the defending two-time European champions prepare to head back out, Wyles cannot wait to see Americans come together to enjoy some top-flight rugby against a rapidly improving Falcons side.

“It’s another example of freshening things up in the season, and giving it a bit of variety,” he added.

“Both sides enjoy these American cities, they are great to visit and bring some real excitement to the game.

“And to be able to expose top-level rugby to America is fantastic and is only going to help broaden the game and bring it to new audiences.”
